A Message from our Principal: |

I hope everybody got a chance to visit with family and friends over the Holiday. I know that for the school, the week leading up to the Holiday Break was a hectic but fun time. It is amazing how excited the kids get and what a special time of year it is for them. I always feel energized when we begin a new calendar year because it just seems like a fresh start. I'm not necessarily talking about resolutions; however, I do see the New Year as an opportunity to from new habits, work on personal goals and to plan a successful 2012. It is exciting.
It's probably a good time to give some reminders about all of the new technology that kids got as Christmas Gifts. Let me start by saying that one of my favorite things I own is my IPod. In the last few days I have seen a plethora of IPod's, Nooks, Kindles, Phones, etc. It used to be that schools took a zero tolerance, hard line on all forms of personal electronics. Slowly but surely this has changed to the point where schools largely accept that students own and carry these devices leaving schools to focus more on trying to regulate when they can be used and whn they must be kept out of sight.
In general, it is probably not a good idea to bring electronic devices to school. yes they can be a distraction, but they are also a huge theft item and I would hate to see a child lose a brand new, expensive piece of technology. Of course there are other complications. Because virtually all of these devices are capable of internet access through "Wi-Fi" (it is restricted at school) it becomes increasingly difficult, if not impossible to monitor kids access to internet sites. All IPods are text capable, can access social networking sites such as Face book and more. Technology is awesome but does require us to be a little more aware as parents.
Respectfully,
