Spring Sports Season

Spring Season at Mt. Vista offers baseball, softball, and track for all 6th -8th graders.  Practices begin the week of February 13th.  All athletes must have a physical turned into Mrs. Gagnon prior to the first day of practice. Please pick up a sports packet from the athletics’ office. You can obtain a physical with your own doctor, Sunlife Clinic in Oracle 896-2092, or Dr. Huntington Chiropractic 896-9844.  Many urgent cares or CVS pharmacies also offer minute clinics.

Special information for 6th graders:

Sixth graders are invited to play all sports this season.  Participating in a school sport is a big time commitment that requires personal discipline.   Student athletes must maintain a 60% or better in all classes, grades are checked weekly.  Since 6th graders are dismissed an hour earlier than junior high classes, they must attend an after school class or study hall.  Mon, Tue, and Thurs. many students take an after school class with Tate, Munoz, or Villanueva.  If no class is attended, then 6th student athletes must go to study hall with Ms. Rosa Flores in the PTO room of the transportation office.   Study hall on Wed. and Fridays will be conducted in Mr. Reiser’s room.

Practices are generally 3:45 to 5:40.  There is an activity bus that leaves school at 5:45.

If you have any questions please call the athletics office.

Flag Football Championship Game

Thursday, 10/9/08 Mt. Vista Cougar flag football team ended their season with a perfect 9-0 undefeated record. The championship game was played at home @ MT. Vista football field against a very strong team from Sacaton. Sacaton took an early lead and led the Mt. Vista cougars 12-0 in the first half. In the second half the Cougar defense displayed to the home crowd their quickness and aggressiveness and shut the Sacaton running game down. The Cougars scored with QB Michael Moffet bootlegging around the right. Later in the third quarter the Cougars free safety Bryce Maine had an interception that set up another Cougar touchdown and extra point making the score 13-12. Sacaton was very successful at taking away the Cougar passing game. The Cougars were forced to run the ball led by Justin Smith, Jacob Manriquez, Alisha Echevaria, Diante White and Dakota Goen. The Cougar offensive line provided enough blocking for the running backs to effectively run the ball. The fourth Quarter was much of the same and the MT. Vista Cougars scored twice more making the final score 26-13. The Cougar's had a great season. We had a very strong defense led by our GIRL POWER- Malieha, Alisha,Ryanne and Rachel. All 4 were very fast and very aggressive. We are a very young team with a lot of heart and we won by achieving 3 things. We played HARD, played SMART and played TOGETHER.

Congratulations Mountain Vista!! Superstition Athletic League Champions

Girls Soccer Champions

The 2009 Mountain Vista Girl’s Soccer Team has take Championship.  At the end of the regular season the girls were in 4th place.  The team had to play the first place school which was Stanfield.  Mountain Vista had already lost twice to Stanfield with very close scores.  The girls defeated Stanfield with the final score of 3-2.   All three scores were made by Halie Blauser, but this would have not been possible with out the help of her teammates.  In the last 20 minuets of the game Stanfield had a hands penalty inside the goal box and Mountain Vista got a free shot.  That is when Halie made the score even 2-2.  In the last 10 minuets is when she scored the last goal making it final 3-2.  This will be the last year for soccer at Mountain Vista, and this was sure a good way to end the season.  Coaching the girls this year was Trina Duarte with the assistance of Ismael Duarte. These girls were such a good group of girls to coach and worked very hard and deserved what they got.
