Grade Presently Teaching: 3rd Grade
Years of Service: 6th year here, 10 years of Elementary Education.
In class activities include: reading groups, whole group instruction, small groups, and pairing. The rotation is: reading groups, standard based reading seatwork, and standard based writing assignments in their journals. Accelerated Math uses a scan tron sheet & has two math groups: 3a, & 3b. In Math, we often use math manipulatives, such as: unifix cubes, counters, plastic coins, paper dollars, base-ten blocks, and clock faces with moveable hands. We use the Harcourt Math text book with the workbook. We also use a computer program called Odyssey. It has a Math and a Language Arts component to it. The user name and password is given out each year to the parents, as well as, the students. It is an excellent program that can easily be used on a home computer with internet capabilities, or at school.
It is fun, animated, and it takes the children from the level that they are currently working at and beyond. I teach Writing, Social Studies, Science, and Handwriting, with an emphasis on cursive handwriting.
I have worked with 1st grade 5 years, 2nd grade 1 year, and 3rd grade 4 years. I did my Student Teaching in 3rd Grade.
I have also taught Preschool for 8 years, which included 2 years of Kindergarten.
